How much you wanna bet that the bone belongs to one of Myhrad's parents?
Bluedragon says:
I hope myrad gets out of the sand soon.. *dives in to get him*
Arya says:
Run for you life, Leaf! Anye doesn't seem to appreciate being called 'heavy'. All say 'aye' if you think Myrhad got out on his own.
Great strip. LOVE IT!
Nebra Reppalk says:
You know, Ayne chasing Leaf reminds me of an old proverb:
"Don't try to outrun one of Domaria's grizzly bears. It will just catch you, knock you down, and eat you. Of course you could run up a tree. Then you'd have a nice view before it knocks the tree down and eats you."
Elemnar says:
Aye! :3
"Some assembly required on Myhrad" - I love that line XD
Lightwing k'Sheyna says:
That is just great. I wonder if it really is a dragon bone. Could be troll:)
Aye!
Ooh, watching Ayne chase Leaf was so funny. And "Some assembly required" was good. XD
Wow, Feiht lifted Leaf's arm in frame 2! Strong pixie...
Pretty comic!
Dark Dragon says:
Thanks for fixing the comment board.... It's so hard not being able to rant on things....
Who ever said this last time: Shiney, Not Shiny, and Definitely Not Shiney are all sub-Categories, because more often then not, if it is shiney, then it is not squishy...
Great Comic! I like the random mushrooms in the back round, lol!
The proverb provided by Nebra Reppalk reminds me of one of my favorites : always travel with someone else, not only can they provide entertainment, food, and if nothing else, if you're being chased by a bear, angry Anye, or anything else that should be watched out for, you have cannon fodder/ something to distract the angry whatever it is while you escape. lol
I've got a couple comments. I suppose it would be pretty funny if either Ayne or Leaf were running off wearing only one boot - it would explain the one Feiht found in a rather humorous way.
I also think that the mushrooms in the fourth panel are placed so they almost look like little hearts coming from Leaf when Ayne comes out. Although I can't say the same thing when I see the 'bigger' comic, so I'm probably just imagining things
Oof, I keep spelling 'Leaf' 'Leif' and having to correct it ^_^;;;
Lee says:
Ooh, lookie, I made something shiny! (Biggish file, though.)
Oh, come on Feiht. You know Myrhad's not that big.
crazyninny says:
Oh! A cleaning spell that gets your hair looking fresh?! NEATO!!
AnyaStyrzod says:
Dark Dragon: Yeah, that was me on the Shiney-category thing. But if the object in question was Shiney and that made it mostly Not Squishy, wouldn't that make Squishy a subcategory of Shiney? Or maybe they're just completely separate after all...whatever.
Love the effects in this comic. They've got pretty colors....*is mezmerized out of studying for her maths test*
AnyaStyrzod says:
*is further mezmerized by Lee's shiny creation*
elvenfairy says:
Myhrad! lol I am sure he is fine, though the same can't be said for Leaf! Gimme! hmm, no dragon this time... GIMME!
Chariset says:
Hahahahahaa!! Run, Leaf!
Chariset says:
Good thing pixies can do anything they think they can...
Er... well, okay, good thing in this case.
says:
Run Leif Run!
Pulsy says:
'hmmm... a muddy elf' LOL She says it like it's equally important as that muddy boot earlier :D I was still expecting one of them to have lost a boot though :P
Nebra Reppalk says:
Actually, things that are shiney can be squishy as well. Ever feel twenty-four carat gold? The stuff's as soft as play-doh. However the majority of gold coins found by adventurers are either of a lesser carat or mixed with additional stronger metals, placing them in the not squishy category.
I never thought generalizing the universe would get to be so subdivided.
Jynx says:
Sorry to burst your bubble, but if Myrad is not able to fly then how could he get out on his own? Unless he suddenly started breathing fire and flying, in which case Leaf and Ayne should watch out...*pouts* I like Myrad!
Jynx says:
Then again, he could probably find a way, being cool and a dragon and all that. Yeah.
Osk says:
ah, magical effects added i see
Osk says:
fresh, clean hair by a magic spell is great, untill you realise it is a PIXIE spell and a PIXIE messing with your hair
Dark Dragon says:
I'm so glad to be able to comment.
VERY SHINEY LEE!
Dark Dragon says:
Nebra Reppalk: Not everyone has 24 carat gold laying around.
Irish Drinker says:
"Don't try to outrun one of Domaria's grizzly bears. It will just catch you, knock you down, and eat you. Of course you could run up a tree. Then you'd have a nice view before it knocks the tree down and eats you."
Wow, another MTG player!!!! Girzzly bears! A 2/2 for 1colorless and 1 green.
Anyhow, Awsome strip guys. Love how some assembly might be required. We must see what happens!!!
AnyaStyrzod says:
Dark Dragon: Or do we??? :P
AnyaStyrzod says:
It ate my HTML. *grr*
Timo says:
How come Myrad could fly as a kid, to save leaf, but not now?
Mossstar says:
I don't think Myrad flied as a kid.
How did you do the shiney, Lee?
i make a magazine for my friends and currently have one of them employed without pay making a comic for it. in homage to you guys, it has a fairy (named Momokun) obsessed with shiny and chocolate and herself. I think she likes squishy too.
mmm... squishy...
Hmm, there is something about Ayne that makes you think of bears here isn't there?
When chased by a hungry bear, remember: You don't have to be faster than the bear, just your companions.
Nebra Reppalk says:
Dan: I was just refrencing to the flavor text from Grizzly Bears, a Magic the Gathering card. It was just how Ayne was chasing Leaf and the fact he was climbing up a tree that made me think of it.
Dark Dragon says:
AnyaStyrzod: Let me rephrase that. I don't have 24 carat gold laying around.
Timo: Which comic did Myhrad fly in?
SHINEYNESS!
I think that only dwarves have 24 carat gold laying around.....
AnyaStyrzod says:
Probably. Let's go attack them! RAWR!
Nebra Reppalk says:
Of course we do. We build our cities right on top of certified veins of gold, silver, iron, and other ores. It's how we make our living you know.(To prevent theft by pixies we set up shiny decoys made of mostly worthless tin. Don't tell the pixies)
And in an evil attempt to divert the conversation elsewhere: Am I the only one who thinks this way, or do you associate the names of people (on this site) with certain ideas? I'll provide some examples..
Empress Catonia of the Cat People: aside from telling me which side of the Muse dog/cat controversy she fell on, her name suggests a certain regality, elegance, and grace. Things I also group with Empires and cats.
the watermelon: his comments help me define this person as an individual. Definitely stands alone from the bunch and is probably as crazy as my friend the blue enigma.
Lightwing k'Sheyna & Anya Styrzod: Their names seem distinctly elven to me, suggesting a sense of intelligence, and a good deal of creativity.
bookbook: that name suggests a very scholarly attitude, perhaps a bit of a recluse and the repetition suggests an underlying nvervousness, but definitely intelligent.
Sorry if I'm wrong or make you mad, but that's what's going through my mind right now. So refute my arguments, debate, be intelligent people. Carthago delenda est.
AnyaStyrzod says:
Ita. Alia iacta est, et Carthago delenda est.
You have got a point there. Aside from being completely true for me...I can really see what you mean
What about me? *sniffle* Anything to so with sugar?
Feathers says:
And me, not that I've commented on any main page yet >.<
Alien, Mithandir, you two are amazing, and the comic is brilliant.
Feathers says:
Ceteri es iactantia? Quod quare carthage delendeo?
meus latin est vetus
AnyaStyrzod says:
Mind translating that? I'm lowly, and I've only been taking Latin for five years :P
thewatermelon says:
um, i just finished a beginning world language course. i havn't eeeee
DragonAdmin says:
Hello Fans!!!!!!
we regret to inform you that fairy comics is shutting down. do to poor funding and server probloms, we will no longer be able to withhold the pay required to maintain the site in a manner appropriate to our fans.
were sorry
-Admin
Nebra Reppalk says:
Alright, I'll get to some more of you and feed your egos:
Skittles: Yes, definitley sugar crazed, probably happy-go-lucky and fan of shiney objects. Pixie, right?
Mithrandir: Actually one of the many names used for Gandalf, specifically the one used by the men of Gondor I believe? Suggestive of wisdom, intelligence, courage, and creativity.
Feathers: Based on one of your recent comments, I would say you're well versed in Latin, and more intelligent than you appear at times.
Dark Dragon: The knowledge and power of a dragon combined with a "darker" element. I'd hazard a guess at an educated individual, and grasping at straws here (i.e. I can't prove it, don't kill me if I'm wrong), possibly in a period of transition?
In regards to Latin: I added Carthago delenda est at the end because I wanted to end my "argument" with a good statement, and that's what popped into my mind. There was this Roman orator (Was it Cicero, Pliny, or someone else? I forget.) who ended every speech he made for years with Carthago delenda est, Carthage must be destroyed. After years of prompting, he finally got Rome to start the Third Punic War where the destroyed Carthage and spread salt on the ground. To this day nothing grows there.
Dark Dragon says:
Nebra Reppalk: HOW'D YA GUESS? (you're not psychic are you?)
Would you people mind not speaking in Latin?!? not everyone on the site can read it you know.....
If you do persist in using this language, I shall half to retaliate with the following:
¡El tejón loco gobernará sobre ustedes!
mwah hah hah...(thank you freetranslation.com)
Dark Dragon says:
All right....I can't spell....
That should have said: I shall HAVE to retaliate....not half
AnyaStyrzod says:
Nebra Reppalk: I think it was Cicero. I really should know, because I've been drilled on this for the past four years and even more this past week (ick history...).
Anyway, what I don't quite understand is how 'Carthago delenda est' can mean 'Carthage must be destroyed' when 'est' means 'it is,' not 'it must be.' Perhaps I should have paid attention to Magistra...
Bastet says:
AnyaStyrzod said:Ita. Alia iacta est, et Carthago delenda est.
Dark Dragon said:¡El tejón loco gobernará sobre ustedes!
What do those mean???
Feathers says:
Anya: I thought you said 'Yes. The others are bragging, and Carthage must be destroyed.'
As I was not sure I put
'The others (ceteri rather than alia as its what I always used to use lol) are bragging?' as I wans't sure if that was what you'd said. and Then I asked why Carthage must be destoryed.
The last bit means, 'my latin is old' as I couldn't think that I had ever learnt the word for rusty lol, and thus that it may not be correct... especially as I've been on the Ancient Greek thing for a bit and am beginin to forget the finer points of Latin language tehe.
Yay Nebra, I'm happy at what you think about me tehe.
Blue River says:
What about my name?
Mithander and Alien: luv the strip. Pixie magic is awwwwwwwesooooooome!
thewatermelon says:
Paullus, fatus. quid est tibi prima nomen de latina?
AnyaStyrzod says:
Bastet and Feathers: I'm not quite sure if I spelled it right, but alia iacta est supposedly means 'the die is cast' (Caesar). It doesn't have any particular relevance to anything other than Carthago delenda est. I was being random. And Latinish.
Wow. watermelon, you need a lot of help with grammar :P Or maybe I've just been taking it too long...
Esne mala semper in lingua Latina cogitare?
AnyaStyrzod says:
No, I didn't spell it right. Mea culpa. The phrase is 'alea iacta est,' not 'alia'
So Feathers was right. Alia is 'the others'
pixie101 says:
Blue River if you like pixie magic why don't you like pixies more than elfs?
thewatermelon says:
As said by one of the most powerful forces in the universe, Elves have Funny Ears: like me!
thewatermelon says:
and also, elves are in LOTR by none other than orlando bloom!!! he ruined everything.
thewatermelon says:
i hear crickets chirping.....
wwolf says:
Love it! Especially love the last panel though.
Lone Star says:
Hey AnyaStyrzod:
YOU FORGOT MEEE!!!
AnyaStyrzod says:
Sorry? What did I forget?
Empress Catriona of the Cat-People says:
"Empress Catriona" Is my RPG character from somewhere else. The first time I used the tagboard here, my computer auto-completed the form, and I couldn't be bothered to change it, after all, I rather like my character.
Painted Cello says:
There, changed it! Not the Empress anymore!
AnyaDraconis says:
You know, now that I think of it, AnyaStyrzod has become rather outdated...time for change!
Mossstar says:
Wha? Now everyone's changing their names! I did it when it wasn't a fad... :-( (see 500 comment comic)
Mossstar says:
:-(
Lightwing k'Sheyna says:
Nebra Reppalk: Thank you! I do consider myself creative(and intelligent:P), but to admit that would be bragging. Ooops, did I say that out loud??
Lightwing k'Sheyna is my Tayledras use-name(name), which we give ourselves at a time of great change, or which is given to us as a description of our personality. Mine is the latter. The Tayledras are, as a matter of fact, rather like the Elves in some ways: We live very close to nature, in treehouses called ekeles, and we magically grow the trees large enough to support six or seven. We are all born with a certain amount of Mage-gift, and in living with the magic, our eyes are bleached to blue-silver and our hair to a shiny silver color(don't tell the pixies!). Most scouts, however, dye it to blend in with the forest. I am a night scout, and have it dyed in gold and black leaf-like patterns. So we are Elven in some ways, but unfortunately, we live a normal persons lifespan.
thepotato says:
i like it! good job changing names.
Mossstar says:
Hey tell me about my name!
I play the cello!
Mossstar says:
Oh, Mith and Alien? You should really fix your population thing. The Erodufuses aren't adding up right.
thepotato says:
Mossstar, you are now lichencomet, OK? tell me if you want something different.
"Carthago delenda est" is an example of the imperitive form of Latin. In this, the "est" which is simply "to be" takes on the characteristics of intent, id est, "must be" in the sense of a categorical imperitive. The phrase itself is used in all advanced Latin classes as an example. The use of the inifinitive forms of Latin verbs is filled with ideosyncracies.
-- Odo (whose Latin is far in his past.)
"veni, vidi, bibi"
Nebra Reppalk says:
Odo: You came, you saw, you drank? Welcome my dwarven brother!
I think I'll keep my name, it works for me. It was given to me by my clan upon reaching maturity four years ago. My true, legal, given name is hidden within my dwarven name, but I won't reveal it as a rule. I take great pride in my dwarven name, and I'm content to keep it the same.
Dark Dragon says:
My sisters catch phrase is "I came, I saw, I whined", though I shall not translate that into "latin" so I don't offend anyone...
"¡El tejón loco gobernará sobre ustedes!" means (roughly) along the lines of "The crazy badger will rule you all."
I don't care what everyone else does....I shall not change my name!!! I will not conform!!!(Though if you insist on changing it for me, I will also answer to "Badger")
Kiri says:
Love zee comic. The little mushrooms behind Leaf in panel 4 look almost like little hearts at first as he's looking up at Ayne. Ha ha!
Feathers says:
Anya: If I think what you're asking is what you are asking, my answer is that by being 'dead' and fairly rarly taught it holds an attraction for those of us who can understand it to use it, and like any skill languages want to be used.... and this one doesnt get too much opportunity lol. The answer is in english as I could not write that in latin and have it make good sense lol.
The current Latin going around my year is 'salve sanguis' I think it originated so some girls could mic take the chavs and not get beaten up lol. (note: salve sanguis means 'hello blood' which is what the chavs at my school go about saying)
thewatermelon says:
vini, vidi, velcro: i came, i saw, i stuck around... lol
AnyaDraconis says:
watermelon: I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT!! You stole my lame Latin-ish phrase. But I will spell it right: Veni, vidi, velcro!!
Okay, I have something different, although this might have been mentioned here somewhere before: Semper ubi sub ubi. Also lame, but...good advice.
Odo: Thank you SO much for the grammar lesson. I needed that. No, really, I did. I'm not being sarcastic. Even in saying 'I'm not being sarcastic,' I'm not being sarcastic. Really. THANK YOU!
Advanced Latin scares me. A lot. I think it might just be me and two friends in the coming years, since everybody else that's been taking it since the beginning of time has been slowly abandoning us for the 'easier' and 'less dead' languages. WE WILL PERSEVERE!
Feathers: Yeah. Hello blood.... *maniacal laughter*.....I won't scare you further with my vampishness. Anyway. We have 'Look! Romans!!' and it's really, really pathetic. I'm looking forward to Catullus et cetera.
Mossstar: Yeah, I remember when you misspelled your new name.....so technically you've changed it twice :P
I wrote a lot. I should stop before I kill more brain cells...
Mossstar says:
yes, you should. no offense.
AnyaDraconis says:
None taken
Mossstar says:

Mossstar says:

AnyaDraconis says:
*screams fangirlishly* I WANT IT TO BE FRIDAY THIS INSTANT!! Can anyone make it so??
-_- I could kill to be at the premiere right now...even though it started 20 minutes ago...
Mossstar says:
It did?
Mossstar says:
*gasp* I just realized something...
I AM LAST!
Mossstar says:
Comic 389
Mossstar says:
darn
Arya says:
Nebra Reppalk: May I question if you have ever mined in the mines of Moria? Due to my species I like the phrase," silva vita". If you wondering about my name, it was given to my by my family, and in our language it means 'moving shadow'. But that was six thousand, five hundred and nintey-seven years ago. Now, due to Saron's viciousness and hatred toward my kind, I am the last one.
Love the strip, and I stil think Myhrad got out on his own.
Namarie.
Nebra Reppalk says:
In refrence to Eragon: I read the books that are out, I think they're quite good. I'm just unsure whether or not I should see the movie. Sometimes movie versions of books can ruin the whole experience and I want to be sure this is a decent movie. Does the committee have any suggestions?
the movie actually looks pretty bad. not book-ruining, just a bad movie, even if it didn't have a book.
Dark Dragon says:
The Eragon movie looks like a good movie, however innacurate it may be....
1)Galbatorix appears in it....
2)Saphira is gray...
3)Saphira appears to have feathers...
4)Zaroc is bright red(as in emmiting it's own light...kind of like Sting...
5)and plenty of other stuff...but I lost the long list that I made....
AnyaDraconis:Talk to Feiht.....(at your own risk)^-^
My school has no latin phrase...T____T
Off to read other webcomics.....(until friday,*maniacal laughter*)
AnyaDraconis says:
Feiht might make it Friday about 2000 years ago. Or in the future. I don't trust her.
The books were awesome, even though they borrowed from a lot. I know the movie will NOT be very true to the book (see Dark Dragon's list), but I still want to see it because I have been waiting FOREVER. I realize that it will probably be bad. But still.
As to the inaccuracy. Dragons DO NOT have bird wings!!! They DON'T!!! And you can't make them!! Besides, Saphira doesn't even look very dragonish. Oh well.
Za'roc (I think that apostrophe is in there somewhere...) is not supposed to be that red, as Dark Dragon mentioned. And it's supposed to have a ruby, not a sapphire.
I seem to recall Snowfire as being white, not brown.
Glabatorix never really had a part in book one, other than being in Brom's story.
Arya's hair is supposed to be dark. And she's an elf. Her ears don't seem that pointed in the trailers and clips.
The Ra'zac (another apostrophe confusion...I don't feel like getting my book right now)....I won't even go into. They don't look like they're described in the book. And if they're actually supposed to be Urgals, that's just worse.
I could go on forever about this. And, as unlikely as it seems after all of that, I still want to see it. IT NEEDS TO BE FRIDAY!!
AnyaDraconis says:
Oh yeah. Saphira doesn't magically grow up in ten seconds with a flash of light, and neither does she tell Eragon her name. Just thought I'd add that. :P
AnyaDraconis says:
I just thought of a bunch of other stuff. But I'll spare you people
AnyaDraconis says:
Yeah...LAST!
AnyaDraconis says:
I checked the spelling on Zar'roc...and I spelled it wrong before. Yay me.
Mossstar says:
Saphira isn't grey in the movie. She's just not a very bright blue.
Also, I think they wanted to make her realisic, so they gave her feathers. Also, feathers don't need as much flapping as skin/membrane.
PhoenixMark says:
If I'm not TOO late, whadda you think of my 'name'? And I'm planning to take Latin next year- right now relying on freetranslation.com
Bene, effettivamente... Questo è italiano. Chiudere abbastanza. : D
Translated: Well, actually... This is italian. Close enough. :D
Okay, just to let everyone know, this is NOT my website, but a really fun dragon-lover's site, and I have permission from the Admin to make it my link. It really is a lot of fun. My username is Lightwingk'Sheyna. No surprise.
AnyaDraconis says:
Mossstar: They did want to make her realistic, but they've got to face facts. Dragons. Do. Not. Have. FEATHERS!
Besides, I don't think the Saphira in the movie would really be able to fly. The whole point of wings is to be light but strong. Feathers are heavier than you might think, especially when there's lots of them. And they have muscles in them, otherwise they wouldn't be able to lift the dragon off the ground. The pictures aren't very accurate to that effect...and if they're simply 'hidden', then all the more reason to get rid of the feathers, becuase that proves that they're too much. Am I making sense, or rambling?
And to all those who think the stereotypical (and true) dragonwing isn't strong enough to bear an entire dragon...you've got a lot to learn. A lot. Trust me, they work JUST fine.
alert! alert! mwahahaha!!! dragons DO have feathers, if they are south american ampitheters! hooray for dragonology(the book)!!!!
and i still say the movie looks bad.
Coyote says:
You people are all insane.
Nebra Reppalk says:
I believe we've had arguments before over the physics of dragon flight. It was one of the comics where they met the dragons in the mountain pass. Then I brought up the point that Chinese dragons do not have wings, and yet they can still fly. This was followed by someone else's argument that Chinese dragons are entirely different beasts from European dragons. Thus the argument begins again while Mith and Alien are on hiatus.
Honestly, I think that dragons vary depending on who you ask. But while I think about it, I think I can prove both sides with science. You know how the T-Rex's closest living relative is the chicken? A theory is floating around that dinosaurs actually had some sort of feathers on them (it was in Muse once). The theory goes that dinosaurs were not actually ancestors of the cold blooded reptilians, but rather ancestors of the warm blooded avians. (If you see where I'm going, I'm not in the feathered dragon camp, just to let you know) Let's pretend dragons have fallen into the regular evolutionary process of good old Terra. Where do the dragons fit? Dragons can be ruled out of the lesser orders because they are definitely animals and definitely have vertebrae. Dragons are probably warm blooded, since they can survive in colder climates. This rules them out of the reptilian, cold blooded family. Dragons also do not give live birth and do not produce milk, ruling them out of the warm blooded mammal family. Therefore the dragon's closest relative is the warm blooded, egg laying avian family. Suppose dragon are an offshoot of the dinosaur evolutionary chain, related to avians, but not the same. It is quite possible for their wings to be either feathers or a membrane!
Now did I just solve the debate or spark a new one? Interesting how the slightest of nudges can turn a discussion down increasingly different paths.
Jynx says:
Nebra Reppalk: I see your point, and I think it makes a lot of sence. Dragons, according to their nature, should be an offshoot of the bird family. However, I think that the classic European dragon is so firmly embedded in our minds that nothing will make us think a dragon should have feathers. In my mind, I don't really care. Dragons, being traditionally magical creatures, will probably be able to fly magically, feathers or not.
Dark Dragon says:
I don't know how dragons fly, but take it from this dragon/human/elf/wizard/thing, unless a dragon is from South America, it should not have feathers...unless it was cursed or something.....
Does anyone else think that Eragon should not be blond?
On a side note, has anyone else seen the picture with Arya holding Saphira's egg while the forest burns down around her.....and she's smiling ear to ear?!?!?!? what the heck is that about????
AnyaDraconis says:
Well, my computer pitched a fit. So I've got to type this all in again.
YES!! WHY IS SHE SMILING!!! IT'S WEIRD!!
I guess I should have said that I don't think dragons are supposed to have that kind of wings because I've never seen one with them. And I've seen a lot.
I also don't believe I was specific enough pertaining to flight, as the dragons-as-offshoots-of-birds idea actually makes a lot of sense, if you think of it that way. What I meant was: the kind of wing pictured on Saphira doens't seem like it would logically be able to bear a dragon's weight.
Dragonology, while cool, is inaccurate. If you want an accurate *and better* one, you must dash out this instant and buy Ciruelo's The Book of the Dragon. I seriously worship it.
Feathers says:
As a true blue Pernie my dragons have membrane wings, and break the laws of Physics by going between lol.

Now 138, but who cares! Eragon wasn't really a good book, the movie was unrealistic, and we all really should be waiting for STORMBREAKER!!!!!!!
Blue River says:

Why did everyone suddenly change their screen-names as soon as I went from using the name of one of my RPG chars to using my actual screen name?

(Dang it, I hate it when I'm emo like this...I think I'll hide)
Dark Dragon says:
WOOT! 3 cheers for emoness! On the flip side, Nebra Reppalk does have a point....*Not shunning* Abhorsen very good....His Dark Materials not so good...Dark Dragon can not think of many titles at the moment....
ERAGON CAME OUT TODAY!!!

Dark Material Trilogy along with the Old Kingdom Trilogy (which is Abhorsen etc) actuallly rule the book world, they truly do! Earthsea comes in just below there along with someone else whom I can't summon to mind.
woooooo!!!!! the eragon movie came out this week and it's winter break and yayyyy!
also! for any of us who happen to be jewish it is the first night of chanukkah! yaayy!
noodle
His Dark Materials was pretty good...*shuns toast*
dark angel says:
hi im new
Painted Cello says:
His Dark Materials Trilogy was awesome! One of the best, if not the best fantasy tales of recent years. I didn't really enjoy the Harry Potter books. The world Rowling created was really cool, but the books became a variation on a theme of "Harry has a bad time in the summer holidays, goes to Hogwarts, finds out something's up, breaks a lot of school rules, but with his trusted friends saves everyone from Voldemort" which became a little formulaic for my tastes. The best fantasy books I've read are H.D.M. trilogy, some of Michael Moorcock's books, and of course LotR, but I'm sick of LotR clone-books.
I loved the His Dark Materials trilogy! They were some of the BEST books I have ever read! I also really liked Eragon, for all who are discussing it, and I think the movie looks really bad.
AnyaDraconis says:
It wasn't completely bad...but it was sort of corny in places and they completely killed the book. Besides that...they completely killed the possibility of a sequel because they almost completely changed the ending...
I still like earthsea, but I guess that doesn't count as recent, even with the newer books in the serries.
Pickles/N/Cream says:
when can we expect the next comic?
Nebra Reppalk says:
I know it's not fantasy, but I really like John Crichton's books. Seriously I could not stop reading Jurrasic Park, Timeline, or The Lost World. I didn't like The Andromeda Strain as much. I need to read more of his books.
Of course one of my favorite authors is Issac Assimov. I read The Complete Robot and greatly enjoyed it.
Anyone know the three laws of robotics?
Eric Bloedow says:
first law: a robot must not harm human beings, or allow humans to come to harm.
second law: a robot must obey orders from human beings, unless those orders contradict the first law.
third law: a robot must protect itself, unless this contradicts either of the first 2 laws.
the eragon movie was all right, but they like completely cut out like half the middle of the book. and it seemed like Arya liked Eragon, which was reeeeeeally wrong, 'cause she's a hundred years old and he's about 17. um, age difference a bit to big?! also, it was kind of a LOTR clone, a little. "Lord of the Wings."
Dark Dragon says:
I thought it was Micheal Crichton who wrote Jurassic Park.....
Earthsea, Terry Pratchet Books, The Sword of Shanara,Redwall, Harry the Poisonous Centipede(yes, that is a real book!) Issac Asimov is good... AND XANTH!! those books rock!...I like pretty much any fantasy or sci-fi book.....
I burn romance books though....
It would appear that the endorfous whatsits are breeding......
tacos.....
Feathers says:
Earthsea, LotR, Redwall, Terry Prachett, especially anything with Death in lol. I'll likely read anything fantasy though... and a large percentage of science fiction.
If anyone wants a really good read, not fantasy, I reconed The Unrivalled Spangles. It is the most incredible book, trully.
AnyaDraconis says:
Back to Eragon: My friends and I made up our minds that if they kissed in that end scene, we were seriously going to throw things at the screen and boo. Because...that's just wrong. In so many ways.
Surprisingly, we still liked it. We are crazy.
AnyaDraconis says:
And yes, it was a LOTR clone. A lot.
LightMan says:
I am currently part of another website and I am signing a petition to shut this one down for copyright infringement. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but you may come to mine... thankyou :)
Pickles/N/Cream says:
well that seems a leetle mean
but what site are you representing?
Ha! I refuse to change my name! Anyway, it is the name of the main (dragon!) character in my short stories which have yet to become "stories" (not as in published or anything, otherwise I'd be the youngest writer ever or something! But just as in "finished...") Anyway, AnyaDraconis, you didn't comment on my name... and while we are talking about Eragon, I've read the books and I will see the movie... did people think it was good? Dragons should not have feathers!
glenr55 says:
Why shouldn't they have feathers?
Of the many types of dragons feathers could be perfectly fine for some.
Arya says:
Just so you know, Pauloni (the author of 'Eragon' and 'Eldest') used to watch a lot of Star Wars and LOTRs. Which means, he kind of copied, not that I'm saying that because I don't want to see the movie, I really want to see the movie. So lets all try to nice mystical creatures and not tear each other apart. I'm not sure how old some of you are, so please try to act your age, and AnyaDraconis, please no shunning.
About my name, I did not take it from 'Eragon'. The 'Eragon' Arya is pronounced Ar-ee-uh. My name is pronouced Uh-rye-uh. Thank you and please try to be nice.
( AAAAHHHH! I sound like one of those airplane attendants!)
Nebra Reppalk says:
Yeah, I noticed some similarities between Eragon and Star Wars. Like how Brom is strikingly similar to Obi-wan Kenobi. Aside from being a dwarven warrior I'm also the resident Jedi Master at my school. I carry a lightsaber everyday, but none of the administration cares. Probably because I don't run through the halls attacking people and getting into duels. Anyway back to the topic, if the movie was a LOTR clone, I'd rather not see it.
I have to agree with Arya though: there's plenty of room for everyone to have an opinion. Furthermore everyone's entitled to their own opinion. It doesn't mean they're right or wrong, but they're still entitled to their opinion. Personally, I'm a conservative. I could stand on a soap box all day professing my thoughts, but I'm allowed to do that. You shouldn't critcize me for it, you shouldn't shun me for it. We should only have a problem when I try to force my opinion on you. (Which I won't) Of course, I was picked on a lot in grade school, so maybe that's why I really don't like name calling and shunning.
Finally, because I can: l\/l3l2l2y
Nebra Reppalk says:
Dang it, the computer ate my 1337!
Let's try this again: 1\/13rry
Nebra Reppalk says:
Huh, no luck. Oh well, Merry Christmas everyone.
Feathers says:
Eragon draws on Pern references as well as LotR and Star Wars. I respect him for writing it and all but it was a weee bit of a copy ideas and mash them together book.
Dark Dragon says:
Yes, I also believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion....as long as it's mine..lol(jk!)
Nebra Reppalk:Are you sure you just didn't wave your hand around and say "This is not a lightsaber..."
I think I am the schools resident 1/2 dragon, 1/8 dwarf, 1/8 elf, 1/4 wizard, crazy jedi-trekkie, fantasy/sci-fi expert, crazy cartoonist, almost-a-black-belt, and all around random badger thing....that likes sharks....and fishing....that plays soccer.
AnyaDraconis says:
Righty then. Apologies to all for the shunning. Inside jokes don't fare well in print. I am officially proclaiming myself a royal dunce, and I will go hide in a corner writing very long and detailed letters of apology to every entity here. After I rant!
As to the feathered-dragon conundrum: I don't think dragons should have feathers because I personally haven't seen any with wings such as Saphira's. That doesn't mean 'I haven't seen it, so it most definitely isn't real', it means 'I haven't seen it, so I am inclined to disbelieve the possibility.' That sounds similar, but...it isn't. I asked a friend (who happens to be a dragon) whether he thinks it's possible, and he is of the same opinion. And as we are all apparently rallying for the 'each to his/her own opinion' approach, that seems all right.
I should also mention that if you haven't guessed, I'm basically a die-hard Eragon fan, mostly because he's a gifted writer, whether or not his ideas have been borrowed (which they have, I know...but how much originality can there be in the worlds?) and I would honestly commit bloody murder to have success such as his. Well...not murder, exactly (maybe I wasn't being honest, then)...but you get the idea.
As a result, I take almost any insult to the series, author, and/or movie pretty much personally. Unless I offended anyone (which I'm pretty sure I have by now; once again, you have my utmost apologies), please don't mind me, as I am merely an insignificant (and possibly insane) human.
*humble humble*
AnyaDraconis says:
'He' being Paolini, not Eragon. :P *further dunceness*
AnyaDraconis says:
Arya: About 'acting our ages'....I think all of us here are capable of that; we need only to attempt to do so, but I definitely know a lot of people who are utterly incapable of acting their age, no matter how old they are...
In saying that, am I acting my age? Or was that remark also inappropriate?
Jynx says:
I was of the opinion that none of us here was actually going to brutally murder someone because of anything said here, but I've been wrong before.*grumbles*...I don't like being wrong...
This is funny...I was out with my friends seeing the Eragon movie, and when Murtag (probably wrong spelling, but oh well, I don't have my book with me) came on the screen with that hood on and with his hair like that, some kid at the front of the theatre yelled, "He's emo!"
And it was a good movie, even if it wasnn't like the book. But I personally hate it when directors kill movies that are based on books, and this one is pretty dead. If they don't know anything about the book they could always find out, or do something so that all of us who actually read it aren't twitching. I'm only praying they don't kill the Twilight movie...
Feathers says:
It is definate in life that we will age, but growing up (and thus acting our age) is optional :P
Jynx says:
Oops, I'm pretty sure you don't all know about Twilight...It's a *heavenly* book about a vampire who falls in love with a human, and it's actually ORIGIONAL *gasp*. The movie has a lot of areas to go wrong in...
AnyaDraconis says:
We complained to each other loudly in the cinema lobby for about half an hour after the film. We scared some small children, but it was fun :)
We all thought Murtagh (there's an h, Jynx :P) was emo-looking (and good-looking ;) ) too, except we didn't yell it out. That must've been funny.
I have yet to read Twilight. It is on my ever-growing list......but it looks amazing. I will eventually....maybe before I outgrow that kind of book...
No, I don't think that'll ever happen. Fantasy rules ALL!
says:
AnyaDraconis: I'm not sure if your acting your age, because of two reasons:
(1) I have not a clue what kind of creature you are.
(2) Plus, I don't know your age.
Nebra Reppalk: Many thanks on the back up.
Also, I'm 2/4 wood elf, 1/4 mountain dragon, 1/8 wizardress and 1/8 mysterious person.
Thanks for listening!
Nebra Reppalk says:
Mysterious person with no name before my comment: You're welcome. I have a reputation as a skilled armored division/infantry commander so I'm very good with providing backup when necessary.
Jynx says:
Anya: Read Twilight. And I highly doubt you will outgrow it, as it's not the typical teen I'm-in-love-with-a-vamp story.
Nebra: I have to admit, you kind of remind me of Gandalf.
Dark Dragon says:
does anyone else get the impression that most people on the site act their shoe size as opposed to their age?(DOWN WITH CAPITAL LETTERS....whoops....;P) lol
isn't 2/4 just 1/2?
Dark Dragon likes ballistics......
EVERYONE: Please do not start the Dragons should not have feathers rant again...:P ick....romance....>
Dark Dragon says:
Dang....angry faces do not work...
Dark Dragon says:
I wonder what comment we're up to....
Jynx says:
*sighs* I generally don't like romance either...like Mary, the preppy, perfect cheerleader falls in love with Joe, the football captain/school hottie...*elvish archer pops out of bush and shoots them with arrow*
MUAHAHAHAHA!!!
wait. oh. i just realized my url has been wrong for quite a while. this is the real url on my name.
says:
Nebra Reppalk: (giggles) That was me who wrote before you, but thanks for listening. The computer deleted my name for some reason.
AnyaDraconis says:
Mysterious no-name: I've mentioned, I'm human, but you're right in not knowing my age :P I could be thousands of years old, or merely three...
Jynx: Yes!! I need to read that!! I'm deprived!
Ita. Down with roamnce. In real life it's wonderful, but books just aren't interesting. Sorry, but no.
Painted Cello says:
Am I allowed to act my key signature rather than my age or shoe size?
Arya says:
RRRAAAHHHH!! The last two times I wrote in, the computer deleted my name. I'm the mysterious person. AnyaDraconis: I'm guesing you are probably middle-aged, so if your trying to act you age, your doing o-kay.
Dark Dragon & Jynx: I agree with you about romance.(jumps down fro tree and throws daggers at approaching romance character.) They should not be allowed in the comic.
Dark Dragon: To end the little Saphira arguement; maybe the so-called 'feathers' are actually down. Some dragons have them while their waiting for the wing skin to fully grow.
Nebra Reppalk says:
I think we've beaten the feathers or no feathers on dragons argument into the ground. Just as an insurance policy to make sure it doesn't come back *pulls out .45 revolver* BANG! There, it's dead, may it rest in peace.
Jynx: Uh, how am I like Gandalf exactly? In D&D I avoid spellcasters, it's not my style. I'm more of a direct, in your face, melee combatant. Not an indirect combat spellcaster.
Also, this may be my last post before 2780 A.U.C., It's my last day of school for the year and I don't have internet at home, so before I go I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Peace on Earth to men of goodwill. God bless us, everyone.
Painted Cello says:
I second the motion for Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men! Happy Solstice :)
Dark Dragon says:
When's 2780 A.U.C?
I like spell casting....It's so much easier to take things out from at least 20 yds. away.....(thats close to 20 m. for those of you who use metric...)...(I think...)
I may not be posting that much from Feb. onward....that's when I get out of Computer Programmin....lol
toast....
AnyaDraconis says:
Sometime when Rome was in power. When somebody was consul. But I don't think it could really have been 2780...Rome was founded in 753 B.C.(E, if you want to be politically correct...) and if I did the math right (which I probably didn't) that comes out to be 2027 A.D. (or C.E.)......which is in the future. Um...
If you were even talking about Rome. Were you? I have Rome on my mind...I just had a test on this about an hour ago...maybe I should have studied :P
Anyway, why did you want to know? I mean, where is it coming from? That might help us answer your question....
AnyaDraconis says:
Okay. Sorry, didn't read Nebra's post. But did you really mean 2027? Or is that just me? Thinking about Rome? And Latin? AGAIN??
*quietly resurrects feathers argument and points out that by Saphira's age and size, she would have hopefully outgrown her 'down'*
*also points to blueprint at URL* They've been dubbed 'sceathers' because 'a scale and a feather hybrid provide lift and strength to wing'
AnyaDraconis says:
Perhaps by 2780 A.U.C. you meant 2760 A.U.C.? As in 2007 A.D/C.E.?
I figured it out at last...or perhaps I am still mistaken. There is quite a chance I could be....
Feathers says:
I'll third the peace on earth motion. And admit to being quite inspired by the idea of screathers (even if the Pernie me screams 'nooooooo' to a feathered dragon :p) I'll also second the happy solstice for tomorrow... anyho

WOOHOO! PERN!!! I love those books...
MERRY CHRISTMAS PEOPLE!!!! (that including dragons and elves and dwarves and trolls and wizards and humans random fruit/veggies and everybody else on the site!!!)
Chakel says:
Ok, I just finished reading Earbegone. Now the plot is sound, the writting is ... in need of work. Considering my copy stated that this was a revised one where whole areas were rewritten, Im thinking that he needs more experience writing. I had huge problems with the missing/short descriptions. Im assuming this story is ment to be savored, so the more relevant details the better.
I agree that its not origional, but very few stories are. So, I dont have a beef with that. Also, many movies cannot accurately display the gist of a book in the alloted 2-ish hours. So, I understand when things get changed or cut. Im ok with it, mostly.
Now about short elf ears. Im not sure when this trend started, but I did notice in LOTR that it was rare for you to see the elvan ears, and when you did they were small. This dissapointed me.
On to Dragons. I've seen renderings of dragons with feathered wings. I'm thinking that maybe the director wanted to distance the dragons in this series from the nasgoul(?) in LOTR. Forgive me, I've not read the LOTR books. My whole reference for them is the cartoon (where theres a whip theres a way-is all I remember of it) and the recent movies.
I've read bits and pieces of sci-fi and fantasy. A book that tickled my funny bone, and inspired vivid pictures in my head, was Bridge of Birds by Hughart. If you've not read it, check it out.
AnyaDraconis says:
Nazgul ≠ Dragon.....but they are similar.
Chakel: What, exactly, is Earbegone?
glenr55: While I agree that you have too much time, good job on the Merry Christmas thing. It doesn't usually work. :)
But maybe I should point out that Christmas isn't quite here yet...:P
AnyaDraconis says:
Oops. It ate my is-not-equal-to sign. Oh well. That's what I meant, in any case...
Feathers says:
A book that is an original idea (or at least within my sphere or reading it is) is Uglies by Scott Westerfeld... It's one of those books where you think, this _must_ turn out 'right' in the end.... but you have absolutly on idea what 'right' is.
jynx says:
Scott Westerfield... don't get me started, I love that guy. Not literally. As for 2780, or whatever that was. could it be a time?
Meh. Whatever. Happy Christmas to all!!
Cethrain says:
Hmmm...feathers on Saphira. I think it just may be a marketing tool to get little kids to buy cute stuffed Saphiras with pretty feathers on the wings. Oh well ::rushes out to Avoid the daggers coming my way:: Hey Mith and Alien, great comic, I love it!
Same to you!! I can't wait until Midwinter morning!
Happy Midwinter, everybody. and may the Goddess give you a good new year!
Khyrhon says:
Merry Christmas! I hope you all got some good presents!
AnyaDraconis says:
Yes! Happy Christmas everyone! :)
dragonlordoffire says:
merry Christmas one and all
glenr55 says:
Yeah i knew christmas hadn't arrived yet, but i had to post it since i wouldn't be on to post it later.
Nazgul are not dragons they are more of a demonic bird that comes from the "hell" of LOTR it was one of the minions of Melkor like the Balrog which most of which had been sealed behind the end of the earth to wait until the last great battle, but some escaped and now follow sauron who is one of the greater powers under melkor who are trying to release him.
Think of Melkor as Satan and Sauran as his dicsiple of Middle-earth trying to undo all things good.
Wiccan. Very cool. And one very misunderstood religion... I don't know why, but I'm sorry for anything stupid my fellow countryman may have said about you and Wicca...
Nebra Reppalk says:
Surprise! The dwarves return ahead of schedule. Surprisingly my dad got internet at our house, so theoretically I should be able to keep in touch more often.
In reference to Rome, Latin, etc.: Sorry, I never was very good with basic math, I meant 2760 A.U.C. I can't add, oh well.
Few more things:
(belated) Merry Christmas everyone.
I consider myself to be a deist when it comes to religion, just throwing that out there...
Finally *goes off with REALLY BIG AXE to kill feathers argument while Anya isn't looking* "Why won't you die?" *Argument roars and picks Nebra up in mouth*"Let me down you foul beast"*Nebra begins swinging axe wildly while argument begins shaking Nebra* "Aaaaahhh! Help! Someone shoot the beast! HELP!" *Melee continues*
glenr55 says:
Cool so do you know stuff about herbs and stuff like that? I know a few things about Wiccan culture and i wasn't saying it was bad to be wiccan was just asking if you were since you mentioned the goddess.
Feathers says:
I just read the '*goes off with REALLY BIG AXE to kill feathers' bit of Nebra's post and was like waaaaa, but then I saw the rest >.
Person says:
Why is Leaf older than Ayne, yet so, so much smaller?
AnyaDraconis says:
See! The feathers argument shall never die. Stop trying to kill it! Dragons should not have feathers!
Hello, I'd like to have an argument, please.
No, you wouldn't!
Yes, I would!
wwolf says:
I'm Wiccan too! Oh wait. I used to be, but now I have no religion.
im not wiccan, im jewish, but wiccism(?) i believe is one of the coolest religions in the history of about three universes that i know of.
Jynx says:
Mormons rock!! And let's not start the crusades again, please... NO religion bashing, in case anyone was thinking about it, which you woulodn't because we're all sooo nice here :)
Jynx says:
I'm a mormon. In case you couldn't tell.
Mossstar says:
Hey, my friend is a mormon! I'm Presbeterian, myself. We're the crazy side of Christianity!!!!! (actually not that crazy)
My shoe size is actually quite close to my age, so I'm not acting that badly.
Mossstar says:
I just got back from New York and I am EXHAUSTED!!! I saw five broadway plays in five days!
Oh, and just to clarify, it was Nebra Reppalk who did all the name-ego stuff, NOT AnyaDraconis!!!! Stop bothering Anya!
Mossstar says:
More good books: The Dark Reflections trilogy. There's only two books out now, The Water Mirror and The Stone Light. The Water Mirror was really good and I'm reading The Stone Light right now.
OK, I just got The last Warriors: New Prophecy book for Christmas. It's called Sunset. I look in the back to see if there's another one in the series, right? And what do I find?
I quote: The New Prophecy has been fufilled... but there are more Warriors adventures still to come!
KEEP WATCH FOR
POWER OF THREE
WARRIORS
BOOK 1:
THE SIGHT
When is this series going to be OVER?!? There's just too many!
AnyaDraconis says:
Thanks, Mossstar :)
Feathers says:
Might as well add I'm another Wiccan in your midst.
Did you see Wicked?! I got to see that in London the friday before christmas. It was amazing!!! Idina Menzel is incredible, her voice!! ooooh *is in love with Wicked*
It's alright, glennr, I didn't think you were insulting us Wiccans.
And, Jynx, where did you get the idea religion-bashing was about to begin? We are all fairly tolerant here, except for the question, "Do dragons have feathers?":P
Nibelios says:
Talking about bookseries that just will not end: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. *SIGH*
glenr55 says:
The Wheel of Time is a great sereis i've read all those books another good series is The Runelords.
Jynx says:
Lightwing: meh. My town can be fairly untolerant, with Mormans and Wiccans and anything else that isn't Catholic (no offense to any Catholics out there) so I wanted to make sure it didn't happen here. I guess I'm paranoid, but people can be brutal about religion in my experience *grins guiltily and blushes*
Jynx says:
Feathers: Ooo! Me love wicked tooooo!!! In my school band we played the music for a concert, it was very cool, I love wicked. The book isn't that great, though. I recommend the musical only.
Feathers says:
Our local library let me down on the book so I'm currently on musical only. Glad other people think its as amazing as I did!!!!
Mossstar says:
My fantasy fiction teacher says if that guy dies before he finishes Wheel of Time, her reason for existance will be purged.
Just a note on Wicked, in the book, she actually dies! :-)
Oh, and the scarcrow isn't the prince in the book.
Or maybe he is and she doesn't die, because I haven't read the sequel. :-)
Her name comes from L. Frank Baum. (El-fa-ba)
Mossstar says:
Also, I really liked the play, too. Only I saw it in Portland, OR in one of those Broadway across America things.
Mossstar says:
Waaaaaaa! I can't go to the secret anymore!
AnyaDraconis says:
That's another thing I really need to see/read. If I find the money...
mith/alien: where is the new comic? i am getting impatient and my short attention span is kicking in.. unless alien is sick again, in which case i send my sincere apologies, a small side salad, and a pixie to bring your shinies to me.
mwahahaha!!!
Hey, I really like the new site! A little busy (and heavy on the javascript), but you add a bunch of nifty features.
Nebra Reppalk says:
Just to let you know: I WAS a Roman Catholic (No, the Church is not an evil empire) but quite frankly I started questioning things, like why do we listen to the pope? Or, why do we have to pray on a set day at a set time in a set building with pre-written prayers? (Yes I'm attacking the Mass) Naturally those are big no-nos for Catholics, so I decided to be a deist. My dad forces me to go to church though, house rule. Instead I spend that time thinking rather than paying attention.

Great Comic! I like the random mushrooms in the back round, lol!
The proverb provided by Nebra Reppalk reminds me of one of my favorites : always travel with someone else, not only can they provide entertainment, food, and if nothing else, if you're being chased by a bear, angry Anye, or anything else that should be watched out for, you have cannon fodder/ something to distract the angry whatever it is while you escape. lol

Would you people mind not speaking in Latin?!? not everyone on the site can read it you know.....
If you do persist in using this language, I shall half to retaliate with the following:

A lot. Trust me, they work JUST fine.
el nina de libro says:
and i still say the movie looks bad.
Coyote says:
Nebra Reppalk says:
Jynx says:
Dark Dragon says:
Does anyone else think that Eragon should not be blond?
On a side note, has anyone else seen the picture with Arya holding Saphira's egg while the forest burns down around her.....and she's smiling ear to ear?!?!?!? what the heck is that about????
AnyaDraconis says:

AnyaDraconis says:
