It's true though, some people call it a "Bavarian Fire Drill". I don't know why they call it Bavarian, but the ultimate point is that if you want to blend in somewhere the best way is to make it look like you belong. Running only draws attention. In fact, it occurs more often than you'd think. The historical ninja could do this by dressing like farmers or other common people, so the samurai couldn't see one standing right in front of him. It's also similar to the principles that the TARDIS works on.
