Ummm ... poems he's written, diary ... those should still exist, shouldn't they? Aren't the knowledge spirits supposed to only consume memories?
Seros Senric says:
Consumed the memories of him writing them.
Wisknort says:
But since Leaf knows they exist... If he takes the stranger back, and someone can name him, then they're on the way to discovering the diary. What better way to reclaim your life?
Neuefruhling says:
Anne is my hero!
Ellendra says:
What if destroying the crystal actually releases the knowledge back to the person it came from?
Alric says:
Something has definitely been released from smashing the crystal, lots of words - going to try the magnifying glass to see if I can read it.
Pulsy says:
Woo update! Ayne is being radical as usual... Not sure if that was the right thing to do here. It smelled like a trap, but the green thing did have a point.
Vorlonagent says:
It had a point if and only if it wasn't lying its ethereal butt off. Suppose purloined memories revert to the owner?
Dark Dragon says:
This could get interesting, especially if Leaf gets angry at Ayne. I wonder who Feiht would follow if they split the party?
MeMe says:
The strings emanating from the broken crystal seem to be merely meta-knowledge, stuff about knowledge, not (necessarily/seemingly) relating to anything we've seen yet. It stands to assume the crystal has assimilated much other knowledge, and if some of it is released, then likely all is released. The big question of course is where, if anywhere, the knowledge will go. There is a chance it will end up with wrong recipients.
Although I too observe the poems and diary would still exist, so maybe the knowledge elemental slipped up... still, it would be a royal pain to have to re-learn your life through your diary. Although I understand some people have been in that situation!
I doubt the party would split over this (though they've been separated in the past), Leaf is, if anything, indecisive - but this is what he set to do in the first place. Plus it's pretty obvious with little thought they were simply getting blackmailed by this being to let him continue his knowledge-theft in even greater scale (out of the island). Yet Leaf does already have a similar deal with the furies, not that he has a lot of choice in the matter.
And Feiht would, of course, follow both of them.
Wisknort says:
"Vorlonagent:
It had a point if and only if it wasn't lying its ethereal butt off. Suppose purloined memories revert to the owner?"
Hahaha, ethereal butt. ... I shouldn't find that as funny as I do.
Someone already came close to this, but I realised that if the memories are released, they'll probably "return" to the nearest person. Physical distance does have some bearing on these spirits, as evidenced a couple of pages ago.
BubbleDragon says:
As best as I can make it out.
We have come out of the time when obedience, the acceptance of discipline, intelligent courage, and resolution are most important, into that more difficult time when it is a ? duty to understand his world rather than to simply fight for it.
The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones;
You can ?(know the name of) a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird...
There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.
There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge.
BubbleDragon says:
A quick search tells me that the first quote is from he Ernest Hemingway and the missing word is person's, the second is from Shakespeare, the third from Richard Feynman, the fourth Socrates and the fifth from Bertrand Russel.
Lee...!?! says:
BubbleDragon: Great philosophers all, although I'm not sure Bertrand Russel could play bongos as well as Richard Feynman.
The green spirit's grin in panel #3 convinces me that smashing the gem was a good idea. 1 day 19 hours to find out if I'm wrong!
mrtt says:
Even if he was telling the truth, a lifetime of atrocities does not get magically erased because you beg for your life to the first person who can actually harm you. A person you have victimized mere hours prior (recall he stole some of leafs memories.)
Even if he behaved for the rest of leafs life, as soon as leaf is gone he would have continued with is atrocities.
Osk says:

in fact, she has a whole sword
Ultrainventor says:
hah! that last proverb about useless knowledge is practically a motto of mine.
